I know it is scorching outside, but we all know that it will end soon and we can pick up our knitting again.
As you are probably aware Caroline and I went to H+H trade fair in Cologne back in March. We went to visit our lovely suppliers to see what that they are offering up for AW26, but we also went on a quest for a new yarn that really made our collective hearts beat a little faster. I am glad to say and we found it and are delighted to tell you that we are now a stockist of Ito Yarn from Japan.
Ito means 'thread' in Japanese and for 10 years Ito has become the by-word for fine yarns from Japan. Ito have a deep understanding of materials which are carefully selected and produced in small family- owned workshops in Japan.
Ida's House is currently stocking three yarns from Ito: Ito Kinu Yarn, Ito Shimo Yarn, and Ito Sensai Yarn, they are designed to be held together in different combinations to create light soft fabrics in silk and fine wool and mohair to make drapey lustrous garments that you will want to wear again and again.
Ito Sensai is probably the best quality mohair silk in the market, as it is a blend 60% mohair to 40% silk.. Sensai is so light that you get the same meterage as other mohair yarns but in a 20g ball. The colours are stunning and pair perfectly with other Ito yarns.
Ito Kinu is a 100% bourette silk, which can be considered organic silk as it is spun from the spinning residues of filament silk. This yarn is characterized by its unique melange look and we have 48 stunning colours.
Ito Shimo combines the finest, mulesing-free merino wool from Uruguay with recycled silk and creates a great melange effect. It is a carded yarn, that is spun on a carriage spinner - an ancient spinning system known for producing the highest quality yarns. We have it in all the colours which pair perfectly with Kinu.
The stand out pattern for this season is the Ease Tee designed by Anne Ventzel and is worked using a strand of Kinu and Shimu held together. It is next on my needles! I hope you are all as excited to see our new Ito yarns as we are, if you are able to visit the shop I know you will be utterly smitten with them.
